? Public Presentation of the Diploma on Complementary Accommodation and the SGIT Platform

The Cape Verde Tourism Institute (ITCV) held a public presentation in the city of Santa Maria, Sal Island, of the new legal diploma on the complementary accommodation regime and the SGIT platform – Tourism Information Management System.

This new regime applies to the provision of temporary accommodation services in villas, houses, townhouses, flats or rooms, with a maximum limit of 90 consecutive days, representing an important milestone in the regulation and modernisation of the national tourism sector.

During the session, three legal provisions of a prohibitive nature were highlighted, non-compliance with which may give rise to sanctions:

⿡ Only operators licensed by the ITCV can offer complementary accommodation services to tourists. Unlicensed units will be prevented from advertising and booking on digital platforms such as Booking, Airbnb, among others.

⿡ The operation of complementary accommodation within tourist developments classified and licensed as Resorts, Tourist Villages, Aparthotels, among others, is prohibited.

⿡ Units licensed for complementary accommodation may not be used for purposes other than those authorised under the licence.

The entire licensing, monitoring and payment process must be carried out exclusively through the SGIT platform, a digital tool created to guarantee transparency, traceability and efficiency in the management of complementary accommodation in Cape Verde.

? The ITCV reaffirms its commitment to the sustainable and regulated development of the tourism sector, promoting good practices, legal certainty and quality in the national tourism offer.
